Power Plays Weekly Roundup
+ Close GOOGL
February 21, 2025
By Scott Redler
Before we get started, let's take off Google (GOOGL) from Power Plays. When I added it yesterday, it had clear breakout potential, but now it looks like it could get infected by the broader weakness in tech.
And keep an eye out for a possible alert on Microsoft (MSFT) because I'm now on the fence there. If I choose to close it out, I'll update you.
We are coming off a very tricky week for the market.
The SPX and QQQ hit all-time highs on Wednesday, but turned down quickly.
And many growth names are getting hit hard -- Amazon (AMZN) and Palantir (PLTR) being two high-profile examples.
Therefore, this is time to be extra cautious and careful in selecting entries.
And we want to focus on special situations in names that can rally regardless of what happens in the broader markets.
Yes, I know nobody wants to be buying and selling so quickly in this service, but I also want to be straight with you.
So keep an eye out for a potential update on MSFT.
Now let's go over our names:
Apple (AAPL) is actually still looking decent today and showing nice relative strength vs. the QQQ's. We are down to the final 1/3 with this name.
Microsoft (MSFT) looked good when I added it yesterday but it's looking a little shaky. So I'll admit I'm on the fence right now. We'll see if it can perk up to retain its Power Plays status.
Nio (NIO) got off to a weak start for us but it's picked up nicely with all the momentum in China. It could see the $5 area soon.
Have a good weekend and rest up! Next week is a big one with Nvidia (NVDA) earnings, the PCE Price Index, and more.
Take Care,
Scott
