Power Plays Weekly Roundup
October 18, 2024

By Scott Redler

Before we get started, let's take off half each of Reddit (RDDT) and AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) to lock in double-digit gains on each.

This leaves us with half each of the original positions.

It's been another great week in the markets as the response to earnings season has been positive overall.

Today, Netflix (NFLX) and Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) are obviously the stars, but the banks have also been doing great. Even Goldman Sachs (GS), which got hit on its report, is crawling back up.

This is giving buyers confidence that strong earnings reports will be rewarded, which is much healthier than seeing "sell the news" reactions.

One big theme we are seeing over the past quarter or so is the broadening out of the rally.

For a while, everything was Mag7 all the time, but we've seen real strength in everything from gold to banks to uranium to energy to nuclear, and crypto is becoming a big theme for us again.

We'll stay on the hunt for new Power Plays, and I hope you've enjoyed the extra ideas I've been sending.

Now let's dig into our names:

MicroStrategy (MSTR) is essentially a leveraged play on Bitcoin and it's up nicely today. It's high risk, but if Bitcoin rallies as I expect, it should do great.

Terawulf (WULF) is a Bitcoin mining play and very speculative. But like MSTR, it has big potential if Bitcoin rallies the way I predict.

Microsoft (MSFT) has been sluggish and a bit frustrating. It just can't get traction, though it is holding up.

Square (SQ) is more of a grinder than a rocketship, and that's fine for now. I wouldn't add here though.

AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) took off pretty fast so we took off half this morning just to play it safe. I'd wait for a pullback before re-engaging.

GE Vernova (GEV) is one of the hottest power/utility plays in the market. It's been a powerhouse for us as the "AI power shortage" theme is great for the sector.

iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) is finally getting going, and I fully expect a big rally into Thanksgiving. I'm calling this "The Bitcoin Turkey Trot."

Nvidia (NVDA) has been out of play, but as long as it holds $137, it has a chance of making a move through $140.

Doordash (DASH) has been fantastic, and I wish I'd waited longer to take profits. Still, it's hard to complain.

Meta (META) dipped this week, and I picked up some calls for earnings. I want to see the $574 area hold.

Have a good weekend!
