Power Plays Market Update
September 3, 2024

By Scott Redler

The new month opened up looking odd.

XBI is leading today (good for us since it's a Power Play), while IWM is lagging -- strange because they usually move together. This gives me the feeling we shouldn't trust the market too much, and we should be on guard.

This morning, we've seen many names pop and drop, including Power Plays names Meta (META) and Affirm Holdings (AFRM). Obviously, we want to see these up thrusts stick -- but continuity has been hard to find in this environment.

Keep Nvidia (NVDA) on your screen.

It just broke its opening low of $112.01 before reclaiming it.

If it can't stay over that level, it could hurt sentiment towards the semis and tech as a whole.

Given the erratic nature of the tape, I'll be looking to be light on the feed.

That means trimming into strength instead of chasing it.

For now, we'll sit tight with our Power Plays, though keep in mind I'll be ready to switch gears if the trend really changes.

Good luck out there.
