Power Plays Weekly Roundup + 2 Actions

March 8, 2024

By Scott Redler

To start off, we'll take two actions for Power Plays:

  1. Take off half of IBM (leaving us with 1/2)
  2. Take off another 1/3 of GLD (leaving us with 1/3)

What a way to end the week.

SPY and QQQ liked the jobs numbers enough to hit new record highs this morning, and we're seeing wild action in the semis, with NVDA hitting $974 before coming back down.

The intraday action in many names is wild - look at Coinbase (COIN), AMD (AMD), and Broadcom (AVGO), to name a few.

So we still have to choose our spots carefully.

Many are asking if we are seeing a blow-off top, but let's focus on finding setups.

We've been getting a lot of nice rotation, and the key to this market is rotating to the right places.

Now let's go through our names.

SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) was frustrating for some time but it's finally woken up. Glad we stuck with it because now it's paying off.

Occidental Petroleum (OXY) isn't very exciting but it's been grinding up nicely for us. If we get a real rotation into energy it will do even better for us.

Morgan Stanley (MS): I added this two weeks ago. It had a short-term bounce that I wish we'd have trimmed into. But it's looking fine for now.

Goldman Sachs (GS) got back up to $395+ this morning, and still looks ready to go. This is the bank I'd go with here.

IBM (IBM) has been up nicely since we added it last week, though I like trimming here to lock in the gain.

Have a great weekend! We'll be on the hunt for new names next week.
