Power Plays Options Weekly
Roundup
August 8, 2025
This was an impressive week for the markets as the active bulls proved the bears have no power.
Last week, I was feeling cautious but the action had me switching gears which is why I've positioned into names like Robinhood (HOOD) and Alphabet (GOOGL).
The action has been pretty stock-specific, and it's our job to figure out what's moving so we can net money.
I'm on vacation today, so I'm not planning on doing much.
And it is hard to get too aggressive in front of the CPI and PPI next week.
Fed rate cut expectations have gone up since the NFP report last Friday, but we don't want to see hot CPI/PPI numbers because that would inject a lot of confusion.
The market's done a good job of handling earnings season and the nonstop trade headlines.
But it definitely will not like stagflation.
Now let’s dig into our current names:
GOOGL 8/22 $202.50 Calls: GOOGL looks like the ultimate tech stock grinder, so I added these calls for a potential move to new all-time highs.
BABA 8/15 $122 Calls: I added these calls this week to play a short-term bounce in China. So far, they've been stuck in the mud.
HOOD 9/19 $115 Calls: this name has looked great technically, and there is a chance it could be added to the S&P 500 index soon. We're doing well here, and are down to 2/3.
UVXY 9/19 $22 Calls: we are holding these UVXY calls as a hedge, and are down to 2/3
XLE 9/19 $88 Calls: I've been looking for a rotation into energy, which is why I added these calls last Friday. XLE has been slipping, but we still have over a month to expiration.
GRAB 8/22 $6 Calls: this name got hit after earnings so these calls will most likely be a zero. I'm just leaving them on in the event of a surprise surge.
Have a good weekend.

About Power Plays Options
Thank you for joining Scott's first dedicated options service as one of our charter members.
Since PPO is an all-new service, we may adjust some aspects of the format and content in the coming weeks. But, the focus will remain on providing high quality ideas for you to consider.
Depending upon the name, Scott may not introduce a specific exit plan at the time of idea initiation. This is because options prices can move so far so fast, and Scott prioritizes flexibility.
However, if Power Plays removes an options idea (whether it's up or down), Scott will notify you with an alert.
