Power Plays Options Weekly Roundup
December 27, 2024

By Scott Redler

Welcome to the first Power Plays Options Weekly Roundup of 2025!

First, let me issue a warm welcome to our new members who joined this week. This report comes out every Friday to get everyone up to date on my strategy.

Day 1 of 2025 was pretty shaky, but things are looking up today.

Tech and small caps are outperforming.

And the semiconductors, which led in 2023 and 2024, are up nicely today.

We're also seeing some decent January Effect action, with beaten down groups like energy, biotech, and cannabis seeing some upside to start the new year.

Right now, I want to see the SPX get and stay over the 5935 area. That would stop the bears from getting too much confidence and taking the ball.

Plus, it would quell fears that a bigger head & shoulders pattern is forming to kick off 2025.

The reality is that the market has put in huge gains for the past 2 years, so it's not unfair to expect a little excess to be worked off.

We'll continue to be on the hunt for new opportunities, but we have to keep that head & shoulders scenario in the back of our minds.

Next week should be interesting because we have the NVDA CES event, the NFP report, the FOMC Meeting Minutes, and more. Plus earnings seasons kicks off with the banks Friday.

So expect a steady stream of fresh options ideas in the weeks to come.

Now let's dig into our names:

VAL 2/21 $45 Call: We added this on Tuesday, and took off 1/3 into strength yesterday. It caught a downgrade today but still looks pretty solid as energy names show strength in the New Year.

GEV 1/10 $365 Call: GEV got roughed up pretty bad after we added it, but it's on the mend, and it's up over 3% today. The stock looks ready to get over overhead resistance.

CELH 1/17 $35 Call: The stock has pulled back like most momentum names, and it looks like I added it too early. The stock is firming up but it's going to need a huge move to work out.

Have a great weekend.

About Power Plays Options

Thank you for joining Scott's first dedicated options service as one of our charter members.

Since PPO is an all-new service, we may adjust some aspects of the format and content in the coming weeks. But, the focus will remain on providing high quality ideas for you to consider.

Depending upon the name, Scott may not introduce a specific exit plan at the time of idea initiation. This is because options prices can move so far so fast, and Scott prioritizes flexibility.

However, if Power Plays removes an options idea (whether it's up or down), Scott will notify you with an alert.
