{"id":74082,"date":"2024-03-19T09:09:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T13:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.t3live.com\/?p=74082"},"modified":"2024-03-19T09:09:40","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T13:09:40","slug":"coffee-with-greta-tech-declines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.t3live.com\/2024\/03\/19\/coffee-with-greta-tech-declines\/","title":{"rendered":"Coffee With Greta: Tech Declines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>DJIA Futures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-30 (-0.1%)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SPX Futures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-17 (-0.3%)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>NASDAQ Futures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-99 (-0.5%)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good morning friends!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futures are falling as tech stocks slip and traders await this week\u2019s Fed decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s get right to it!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nvidia Falls After Announcing New Chips<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Nvidia <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(NVDA) shares are falling 2.4% ahead of the open after announcing new AI chips on the first day of its GTC Conference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conference kicked off after the market close on Monday with a keynote speech by CEO Jensen Huang.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He announced a new generation of AI chips and software named Blackwell.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first Blackwell chip is the GB200 and it will ship later this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Huang said, \u201cHopper is fantastic, but we need bigger GPUs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hopper is the company\u2019s current line of AI GPUs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nvidia also unveiled new AI software called NIM as executives say the company is becoming less of just a chipmaker and more of a platform provider.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SMCI Plunges On Share Offering<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Super Micro Computer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(SMCI) shares are tumbling 10.3% in premarket trade after announcing a new share offering this morning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a filing, SMCI said it plans to sell 2 million additional shares of common stock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That pushes its total shares outstanding to over 58 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move comes a day after SMCI began trading on the <\/span><b>S&P 500<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a market cap near $60 billion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The filing said, \u201cThe principal purposes of this offering are to obtain additional capital to support our operations, including for the purchase of inventory and other working capital purposes, manufacturing capacity expansions and increased research and development (\u2018R&D\u2019) investments.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goldman Sachs is the underwriter for the new offering and has an option to purchase up to 300,000 additional SMCI shares within the next 30 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homebuilding Rebounds<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New home construction rebounded more than expected in February.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Census Bureau reported housing starts jumped 10.7% last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.52 million units.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That topped expectations for a 7.4% increase to 1.43 million and was the largest gain in nine months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Single-family starts jumped 11.6% while multi-family building rose 8.6%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">January\u2019s starts were also revised higher to a 12.3% drop vs the initial 14.8% decline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of new building permits issued also rose 1.9% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.52 million vs 1.49 million expected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That was the highest rate of new permits issued since August 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Single-family permits rose 1% and multi-family permits rose 2.4%.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Case You Missed It<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homebuilder sentiment rose unexpectedly this month. Confidence in current sales conditions rose 4 points to 56, the six-month expectations index rose 2 points to 62, and buyer traffic increased 2 points to 34.
