{"id":69852,"date":"2023-08-10T08:55:23","date_gmt":"2023-08-10T12:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.t3live.com\/?p=69852"},"modified":"2023-08-10T08:55:23","modified_gmt":"2023-08-10T12:55:23","slug":"coffee-with-greta-soft-inflation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.t3live.com\/2023\/08\/10\/coffee-with-greta-soft-inflation\/","title":{"rendered":"Coffee With Greta: Soft Inflation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/t3trading.com\/cwapt-scott\">Register now<\/a> for next week's free Q&A event on LinkedIn with Scott Redler!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>DJIA Futures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">+93 (+0.3%)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SPX Futures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">+13 (+0.3%)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>NASDAQ Futures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">+94 (+0.6%)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good morning friends!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futures are higher after a soft July inflation report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s get right to it!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooling CPI<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inflation pressures came in cooler than expected in July.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bureau of Labor Statistics\u2019 consumer price index rose 0.2% monthly and 3.2% year over year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That was better than expectations for a 3.3% annual gain but a tick up from 3% in June.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food and shelter prices contributed the most to that gain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grocery prices rose 3.6% annually, restaurant prices jumped 7.1%, and shelter prices were up 7.7%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gas prices were down 19.9% from a year ago with oil prices down 26.5%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The core CPI rose 0.2% monthly and 4.7% annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That was better than expectations for 4.8% annually and marked the slowest annual increase since October 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weekly Jobless Claims Rise<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weekly jobless claims jumped more than expected last week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Labor Department reported 248,000 Americans filed initial claims for unemployment benefits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That was up by 21,000 from the previous week and higher than 230,000 expected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That was the highest level since the week ending July 1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuing claims fell by 8,000 to 1.64 million in the week ending July 29.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disney Profits Beat<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Walt Disney <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(DIS) shares are up 1.8% ahead of the open after reporting mixed fiscal Q3 results.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how the entertainment giant\u2019s results compared to analysts\u2019 estimates:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adjusted EPS: $1.03 vs $0.95 expected<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revenue: $22.33 billion vs $22.5 billion expected<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disney+ subscriptions: 146.1 million vs 151.1 million expected<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revenue was up 4% year over year but Disney+ subscribers dropped 7.4% from the previous quarter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to those struggles in the streaming business, Disney announced it will raise the price on its ad-free Disney+ tier in October and crackdown on password sharing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The parks, experiences, and products division was a bright spot for the company as revenue jumped 13% year over year to $8.3 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CEO Bob Iger said, \u201cMoving forward, I believe three businesses will drive the greatest growth and value creation over the next five years.
